The Athletic Way

In this part, we will explore the athletic events that occur in Athens either set up by the Olympic Academy or by gyms and other organizations and athletic clubs.

 

Over the last few years, there is an increase in this kind of events as more and more people feel the need to excerise.

Events concerning bikes take place almost every week in Athens. Bikers ride their bikes every Friday night and tour Athens. Also, there are many events that are organized and people participate with their bikes.

Stadiums

 

After the Olympic Games in Athens 2004, many of the stadiums are used for other purposes apart from athletic events, like concerts and conventions.

 

Some of the stadiums that worth visiting are the Olympic Stadium in Athens also known as OAKA, the historical Panathenaic Stadium and the Tae Kwon Do Stadium in Faliro.

Marathons

 

The annual Classic Marathon occurs in Athens every November and it attracts around 5.000 participants worldwide. Furthermore, races happen besides this one sponsored by companies.

Rally Acropolis

 

The Rally Acropolis is the annual race between cars. It's a three-day event and attracts all the sport-car fans! It is part of the World Rally Championship schedule

 

Rivaval of the Olympic Games

 

Each year, in the national day of the Olympic Games education (April 12th) the Hellenic Olympic Academy organises an event to educate kids about the Olympic Games. In this celebration participate Greek Olympic Medalists, actors, singers and present a breathtaking event.

Agios Cosmas Athletic Center

The National Youth Sports Center St. Cosmas was inaugurated and handed over for use to the public in July 1961.

The mission and purpose then and now, is the development of folk-mass sports, ensuring opportunity for all interested people to participate in sports.

Over 50 years the Sports Center of St. Kosmas has provided hundreds of thousands of people the opportunity to take their first steps in the sport, was a lung sport and a way of citizens from everyday life and their problems.
 

Outdoor tennis. Specifically, constructed 7 closed Trainers (Basketball, Wrestling, Boxing, Judo, Gymnastics and Rhythmic Gymnastics, Athletics and weightlifting), 3 open training centers (Hockey stadium, golf course and tennis Throwing) and a closed dyving Olympic specifications covering the needs of the majority of athletes.
 

The total area of ​​these facilities is 14,000 square plus those constructed sixty newest hostels capacity of 100 beds and fully reconstructed existing rooms of hostels creating a residential complex of 98 double rooms and 13 suites.

Alongside constructed, in an area that belonged to E.A.K.N. Agios Kosmas Olympic Sailing Centre which after the Olympic Games came under the jurisdiction of Olympic Properties SA thus depriving the sports center a chunk of.
