Posters
No one can deny that posters are an advertising tool. Actually, posters may be the first advertising tool after people’s voice.
Their history started many years ago when posters was included only text. These were known as textual posters and they advertised Shakespeare’s plays by letting people know a small part of the plot. Also, these kinds of poster informed people about event like government proclamations.
Nowadays, advertising poster is a special type of graphic art in which there many other categories. In my point of view the most interesting of them is the film posters category. The history of film posters started almost simultaneously with the history of cinematography. Actually, posters promote cinema to ordinary people the majority of whom was illiterate. The eye-caching colors in combination with the short text made posters the most effective advertising tool regarding films.
I have to mention that this category of poster have developed so much that now there are many collectors of them. Also, there are many competitions. For example there is the Film Festival Posters Competition in which take part posters that are designed to promote the Film Festivals around the world.

The first film poster was designed by Marcellin Auzolle in 1896 and it was about Lumiere’s film entitled L’Arroseur Arrose. However it was Jules Cheret who laid the foundations of this kind of advertising in 1892 by creating a lithography which depicted a girl holding a placard showing the time of the shows.

I know that is difficult to say the history of posters in such a small article.
What I wanted was to turn your attention to this kind of advertisement. If you want to learn more about poster and, especially, about film posters this and this sites will help you.

The current form of posters was established in 1767 when lithography was invented by Alois Senefelder . With this innovating technique their design was improved and posters become colorful. In addition this technique allowed the mass and cheap production of them. That was a great step towards posters being recognized not only as an advertising tool but also as a modern art. By the 1890, posters had already found their way in the advertising field and they were the primary means of passing a massage.
