Beds Are Burning  (TckTckTck Campaign)

This is a global campaign which was started running on 2th of October 2009 for Copenhagen’s conference concerned about the climate change issues.
Many musicians and celebrities from all around the world participated in the creation of this campaign. Among them, the former UN secretary-general Kofi Annan, the actress Marion Cotillard and famous singers like Duran Duran, Klaus Meine of the Scorpions, Lily Allen and others. They all added their voices for a common purpose.

The “tck tck tck” campaign, pronounced “tick, tick, tick” to symbolize time running out, was created by Havas Worldwide and at first it was presented online and a few days later appeared on TV and on the press.

The ad aims to urge people universally to become “climate allies” and apply pressure on world leaders to reach a binding deal at the UN Climate Change conference in Copenhagen in December 2009.

The song is a fragment of the Global Humanitarian Forum and is a part of the greater "TckTckTck" project, which aims to draw attention to the urgency of the global warming crisis, by signing a "musical petition" with each download.
Everyone who wanted to support the purpose of this campaign, was able to download free of charge the re-mix of the mega-hit “Beds are Burning”. Also, by downloading the song, automatically the petition is signed.

The campaign was successful as almost 1.5 million signatures collected at the first week after video’s publication on media.

We can say that this campaign had commons with another campaign which was running years ago in 1985. USA campaigned for Africa. It featured the song We are the World which was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie. The song was also recorded with the participation of popular musicians. These are the names of many of the artists which sang for the children: Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner, Diana Ross, Bruce Springsteen, Cyndi Lauper, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles and many many others! We know you've heard the song, but If you haven’t seen the video, follow the link above.

Lyrics

Kofi Annan speaks
Climate change is having a real impact on the lives of individuals and communities around the world.
We must do something about it.
In December in Copenhagen our leaders will have an opportunity to come up with a robust post-climate agreement.
That is viable and will help make this planet a better place.

Down at the river bed
The earth is cracked and dry instead
Farms are failing, cities baking
Steam in 45 degrees

The time has come to take a stand
It’s for the Earth it’s for our land

The time has come a fact’s a fact

The heat is on no turning back

How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning
How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning

The time has come to take a stand
It’s for the Earth it’s for our land
The time has come a fact’s a fact
The heat is on no turning back

Heaven hopes we’ll find a cure
From Bejing west to Timbuktu
The global village lives and breathes
In 45 degrees

The time has come to take a stand
It’s for the Earth it’s for our land
The time has come a fact’s a fact
The heat is on no turning back
The time has come a fact’s a fact
The heat is on no turning back

How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning
How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning

The time has come to take a stand
It’s for the Earth it’s for our land
The time has come a fact’s a fact
The heat is on no turning back

How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning
How can we dance when our earth is turning
How do we sleep while our beds are burning

Desmond Tutu concludes
I support the Campaign For Climate Justice
And I’m pleased to become a climate ally
This is your campaign
